I’ve known Allison and Lucas for a little over a year and have gotten to know Allison pretty well from watching her instagram stories! I photographed their engagement session last year (you can check it out here) in downtown Bloomington! We ended up taking their wedding photos in some of the exact same spots!
I was super excited for their wedding day! I knew their venue was going to be gorgeous, and the decorations were going to be on point because I had been watching Allison post about it for a year! And she had sent me a picture of her dress a long time ago and it was ah-mazing! I have to say, I am obsessed with the mesh style dress that makes you wonder how the dress is staying on! They are SO gorgeous! I think you will agree, this dress was made for Allison!
Allison and Lucas wanted to do a first look (yay!) and it was so dang sweet! Lucas’ reaction was so so sweet! Allison said she had shown Lucas her wedding shoes (which were maroon keds sneakers) and so he thought that maybe she was going to have a not so fancy dress….so to say he was shocked when he turned around was probably an understatement!
They had such a fun and sweet bridal party as well! They went along with whatever Jen and I told them to do! And Jen only had to use her scary voice once (haha).
I have to take a minute and talk about first look vs non-first look. A lot of couples don’t want to do a first look because they think it will ruin the reaction of the groom watching the bride walk down the aisle. It couldn’t be further from the truth. In all honesty, I am ok with whatever my couples choose, whether they have a first look or not is totally up to the, but I am here to tell you, it doesn’t take anything away from your future husband seeing you walk up the aisle toward him. As you will see by Lucas’ reaction!
After the ceremony was over, we headed downtown to do the bride and groom portraits! Allison loves a specific pink garage door, that we also used in her engagement pictures, so that was our first stop! We wandered around a bit and then ended up at the exact spot where Lucas proposed. How cool is it that on their wedding day, we were able to do pictures in the same spot where it all started!!
After their pictures, it was time to start the reception! Reality on Monroe did not disappoint! The space has an amazing vibe…as Allison said, it didn’t even need much decoration, but the decorations she did went perfect with what was already there. Their food was ah-mazing too! That mac n cheese…mmmmm.
If you remember in their engagement blog post, I’m sure I put something about Lucas and how he was so fun and is just a big goofball….and he did not disappoint at the reception! Anytime the party needed to get going, Jen would go get him and he would get everyone dancing (photographers don’t want to photograph an empty dance floor!) Their guests were all the sweetest and you could just tell how much they all love Allison and Lucas. I heard so many people say that Allison was just made for Lucas and how happy they made each other!
They are on their honeymoon in Cancun right now (thanks for making me jealous Allison with your instastories), but hopefully the wifi works on the beach 😉
Allison and Lucas – It was my honor to photograph your wedding day and share your love story! I’ve never met two people who seem to complete each other like you two do! I wish you all the happiness in the world (and hopefully Lenora doesn’t hate you too long when you get home)
